To nature enthusiasts
Põlva county – possibly the closest thing to paradise for people who enjoy nature!
Many captivating scenes of nature will enrich your day – the Big and Small Heaven’s Hall (Suur- ja Väike Taevaskoda), the blooming Valgesoo, pine forests, which almost remind you of a park and are full of mushrooms; the Meenikunno bog at sunset, the Postal route (Postitee) in autumn colours, the sandstone cliffs on the Ahja and Võhandu river, the caves at Piusa, birds on the Räpina polder, and many other sights to remember or to capture with your camera.
For those who wish to explore nature on their own, Põlvamaa offers many official marked hiking trails in forests, in bogs and on the shores of rivers and lakes. You will find picnic places with all the required equipment in beautiful locations in forests or by lakes.
If you are travelling with larger groups, we suggest you find an experienced tour guide to accompany you on your nature explorations.
You can travel on water using canoes, rafts or inflatable boats; travel through bogs and marshes on foot or using snow shoes; and ride through beautiful locations, each with their “own story”, on a kick scooter.
We recommend our long term professional partners as your tour guides:
